Happel’s Meaow has a rich history, dating back to the 1700s when it was known as Bear Swamp. In the late 1800s, Blue Ridge Summit became a tourist destination and Bear Swamp became a productive farm, before transitioning to conservation under Washington Township in 1990. Volunteers and partners, including students, professionals, and community groups, contribute to its mission through outreach, biodiversity restoration, and educational events.
